Sources

This page lists the sources used across Salaty Whisk.

Prayer calculation

Prayer times are calculated via the Aladhan API, an open-source service run by IslamicNetwork. Aladhan implements the standard astronomical calculation methods used by major Islamic authorities, including the Muslim World League (MWL) method the site uses by default.

MWL standard

The Muslim World League method is what the Comunidade Islâmica de Lisboa (CIL) uses. MWL puts Fajr at 18° below the horizon and Isha at 17°.

Mosque addresses

Mosque addresses on city pages are checked against: official mosque websites, the CIL public database, and Google Maps at the time of publication. Addresses change over time — write to us if you find an outdated listing.

Hijri calendar

Hijri dates come from the Aladhan API gToH and hToG endpoints, which implement the standard astronomical calculation of the tabular Islamic calendar.

Portuguese Muslim demographics

General claims about Portugal's Muslim community draw on public data from the Comunidade Islâmica de Lisboa, academic studies from the Universidade de Lisboa and other institutions, and censuses from the Instituto Nacional de Estatística (INE).

Geographic data

Latitude/longitude coordinates and population figures come from standard public references (OpenStreetMap, Wikipedia, INE).
